Santa Barbara Waterfalls

When hiking in the foothills of Santa Barbara you may happen to find a waterfall or two. Waterfalls are actually plentiful in Santa Barbara especially after a good rainy season. They aren’t quite as dramatic or grand as Niagara in New York or Angel Falls in Venezuela but they can be just as beautiful to the eye of the beholder.
When it comes to building a natural looking waterfall, Santa Barbara sandstone (the local native rock) is the rock of choice for us as it is found just about everywhere here in town. It varies a bit in hue and quite a bit in density from site to site. Some stone is great for use in building waterscapes, while some stones practically disintegrate when you touch them. Many people own property where you can barely stick a shovel into the ground without hitting a stone. Some pay to have excavated stone hauled away, only to be sold later by those who take it away. Quarried sandstone rock is quite the hot commodity here.
